The equine veterinarians at 3H have lameness solutions that are innovative and effective. We strive to keep abreast of the new developments and advancements in medicine relating to performance horses.
Digital Radiography
With our digital x-ray machines, we provide superior image quality. This has increased our diagnostic capability by helping detect very small problems which were not visible on traditional x-ray films. With its portability feature, we can give our clients immediate answers in the field. We believe we can diagnose problems easily before they become a serious issue
Diagnostic Ultrasound
Soft tissue injuries account for a large part of lameness seen in sport horses. With our digital ultrasound equipment, we can produce high resolution images of your horse's tendons and ligaments to accurately diagnose a multitude of conditions such as:
Suspensory ligament injuries
Bowed tendons
Collateral ligaments
Cartilage thickness in joint
Shockwave Therapy
Some equine athletes may suffer from chronic pain or lameness that leads to periods of prolonged rest or lengthy treatments. Shockwave therapy is a new modality that may help by stimulating the horse’s natural repair process. Shockwave is suitable for ligament damage, tendon tears, back problems, joint disease (ringbone, hock arthritis, navicular), splints, bucked shins, and fractures.
Stem Cells
Stem cell therapy can be used for joint problems, tendon or ligament injuries, and bone cysts. Stem cells contribute to healing because they help build new tissue. They also have anti-inflammatory effects on tissue.
IRAP
IRAP is cutting-edge regenerative medicine used to treat arthritis. It has a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the protein that accelerates the destruction of cartilage. When the cartilage is destroyed, lameness results.
Platelet Rich Plasma
Ligaments and tendons can suffer from injury. Ligaments can also degenerate over time. Sometimes, the normal healing process doesn’t achieve an adequate level of soundness. To help these injuries to tendons and ligaments, platelet rich plasma (PRP0 may be a good option. It is injected directly into the injured tissue. This treatment helps assure the injury is completely healed and the risk of re-injury is lessened. PRP provides an alternative to surgery.
Tildren
Tildren is an European drug developed to treat lameness associated with boney abnormalities. Cells called osteoclasts break down bone and then osteoblasts rebuild new bone. When the bone becomes injured, the action of the osteoclasts is enhanced resulting in more breakdown of bone than is rebuilt. Tildren acts to (surpass) the action of the osteoclasts and enhance the action of the osteoblasts resulting in increased bone density. We have used tildren to treat navicular disease, pedal ostectis, ringbone, kissing spine, and arthritic hocks with good results.
Laminitis
Laminitis can be a ruthless disease, and often life threatening. We are trained to stabilize the condition and then apply advance treatment methods. Using radiographic guidance, we will work with your farrier to provide the best biomechanical type of shoe to promote healing.
Podiatry
"No foot, no horse." — The equine foot is very suspectible to injury or disease. We believe in using radiographs and working with farriers to create a sound horse and not one with chronic lameness problems.
